“Tamar has been instrumental in shaping the vibrant cultural life in our community and she will now be able to apply her skills in an even broader context, said Gayle Waxman, Executive Director.

Since joining the JCC, Tamar’s role has grown significantly to include the supervision of staff in a number of program departments including; cultural arts and Jewish life, children and family, camps, special needs, teen/bbyo programming, adult/older adults. Tamar has taken the lead role in growing the Rady JCC’s Cultural Arts and Jewish Life programs including the Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival, Tarbut: Festival of Jewish Culture, Yom Ha’atzmaut and the Israel Pavilion.

In 2002, Tamar was awarded one of twelve graduate school scholarships from the JCCs of North America to attend Yeshiva University and complete her Master of Social Work.

“As a Jewish community professional, I believe it is our mandate to create a comfortable Jewish environment that provides an inclusive atmosphere where individuals have opportunities to express their Jewish identity. Serving the needs of the entire community in a manner consistent with Jewish values is one of the things that I find to be the most appealing dimension of my community work. I am looking forward to growing further in my role at the Rady JCC” shared Tamar Barr.

In her new role, Tamar will continue to oversee the Program Department but also take on some organization wide initiatives.
